It is critical to document how the environment of care (EC) and an organization's facilities are maintained. Documentation provides evidence to a surveyor that an organization completes inspection, testing, and maintenance efforts and also helps leadership review the status of specific work (including monitoring the EC as discussed in Standard EC.04.01.01). This article presents several documentation requirements in the EC, “Life Safety” (LS), and “Emergency Management” (EM) chapters and offers suggestions for practical ways to meet those requirements.
