About the Authors
Gregory S. Ogrinc, MD, MS, is the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education and Professor of Medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth in Hanover, New Hampshire. He is also a hospitalist physician at the White River Junction VA Medical Center in Vermont. After graduating from John Carroll University, he earned his doctorate of medicine from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and his master of science from Dartmouth.
Wendy S. Madigosky, MD, MSPH, is an associate professor of Family Medicine and the Interprofessional Education and Development course director at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. She graduated from Trinity Washington University and then earned her doctor of medicine from The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences as well as a master of science in public health from the University of Missouri–Columbia.
Amy J. Barton, PhD, RN, FAAN, ANEF, is an associate dean for Clinical and Community Affairs at the University of Colorado College of Nursing, Denver. Additionally, Barton is the Daniel and Janet Mordecai Endowed Chair in Rural Health Nursing. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Toledo and her master’s degree in nursing from the Medical College of Ohio. She received her doctor of philosophy from the University of Florida.
Linda A Headrick, MD, MS, FACP is Professor Emerita of Medicine at the School of Medicine, University of Missouri–Columbia. Headrick’s initial faculty appointment was at Case Western Reserve University and MetroHealth Medical Center, where she was one of the first to introduce continuous quality improvement into medical education. In 2013, the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) recognized Headrick’s efforts at the University of Missouri–Columbia with a Learning Health System Challenge Award. In addition to numerous peer-reviewed publications, Headrick has co-authored three books, including Enhancing the Professional Culture of Academic Health Science Centers: Educators’ Stories of Creating Enduring Change (2013) and Fundamentals of Health Care Improvement: A Guide to Improving Your Patients’ Care, Third Edition (2018).
Mary A. Dolansky, PhD, RN, is associate professor at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, Case Western Reserve University. She is also a senior quality scholar of the Veterans Affairs National Quality Scholars Fellowship Program at the Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dolansky earned her nursing degree as well as her doctor of philosophy from Case Western Reserve University. She has contributed to many books and journal articles within the medical field specifically in quality improvement. Additionally, Dolanksy co-authored the massive open online course, Take the Lead on Healthcare Improvement.
Rebecca S. (“Suzie”) Miltner, PhD, RN, CNL, NEA-BC, is an associate professor at the School of Nursing, University of Alabama at Birmingham, and a nurse scientist at the Birmingham VA Medical Center. After graduating from the University of Georgia, she earned her bachelors of nursing from the Medical College of Georgia, her master of science degree at the University of Wisconsin, and doctor of philosophy from the University of Maryland at Baltimore.

Donald Goldmann, MD, is chief medical and science officer, emeritus, and senior fellow and faculty at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement in Boston. Goldmann's career in clinical infectious diseases and epidemiology (with a focus on hospital-acquired infections) spans more than three decades. Goldman has also been a professor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, a professor of immunology and infectious diseases at Harvard School of Public Health, as well as on staff at Children’s Hospital Boston. He earned his doctor of medicine from Harvard Medical School.
